What it is

What is a dyno tune?

Your engine management (ECU) decides how much fuel to add and when to fire the spark. After modifications, such as a camshaft, cylinder heads, exhaust, intake, or a new ECU, those settings need to change to suit. A dynamometer lets us run the car under controlled, repeatable load, read the engine data, and refine the tune step by step.

Our dyno is a Mainline 2WD chassis dyno (Mainline 600L). It is 2WD only, so AWD/4WD-locked vehicles need a call to check before booking. Because the dyno is in our own workshop, performance jobs are built, tuned and checked under one roof. Results are measured, not guessed.

How it works

The dyno tuning process

  1. Talk to us first. Tell us the vehicle, engine, ECU and every modification. We confirm what's needed and quote before work starts.
  2. Check the car. We look for leaks, faults and anything that would make tuning unsafe, and tell you before going further.
  3. Baseline. The car is strapped to the dyno and run to see where it starts.
  4. Tune. We adjust the calibration under controlled load, watching the engine data as we go.
  5. Verify and hand back. We check the result, talk you through it, and the car goes home.

Before you come in

What to bring to a dyno tune

  • A 2WD vehicle: our Mainline dyno is 2WD only. AWD or 4WD-locked? Call 07 4948 3204 first to check.
  • A healthy car: serviced, no oil, coolant, fuel or exhaust leaks, no warning lights.
  • A good battery and a charging system that works.
  • The fuel you'll run in the tank (tell us the type and octane).
  • Tyres in good condition and at the right pressure.
  • A written list of every modification, plus any ECU passwords or previous tune files.
  • Your goals: street, towing, track, economy or all-round drivability.

Not sure if the car is ready? Book it in for a check first: diagnostics or mechanical repairs.

Dyno tuning FAQs

What is a dyno tune?

A dyno tune is engine tuning carried out on a dynamometer. The dyno holds the car at set speeds and loads so the tuner can watch engine data and adjust the engine management (ECU) step by step, instead of guessing on the road.

Dyno tunes start from $850 inc GST. Mechanical / old-school tune from $850; standard dyno tune (petrol or diesel) from $1,400; European ECU dyno tune from $1,700; locked or bricked ECU unlock and tune from $1,700; aftermarket ECU dyno tune from $1,800; transmission / TCU tune from $850, or $500 when added to an existing tune; multi-map tune from $3,200. A dyno power run is $250, and dyno diagnostic time is $180. Final price depends on vehicle and setup; we confirm before we start. Call 07 4948 3204.

Where is your dyno?

Can you dyno tune AWD or 4WD vehicles?

Our dyno is a Mainline 2WD chassis dyno, so it is 2WD only. If your vehicle is AWD or 4WD with the drive locked (it can't be run in 2WD), call 07 4948 3204 before booking so we can check whether it can go on the dyno.

Do you tune Haltech ECUs?

Yes. We tune Haltech engine management on our in-house dyno. Call us to talk about your setup.

What should I bring to a dyno tune?

A 2WD vehicle (or one that can safely run in 2WD; call first for AWD/4WD-locked vehicles), healthy and serviced, with no leaks or warning lights, a good battery, the fuel you plan to run, and a written list of every modification. See the checklist on this page.

How do I book a dyno tune?

Call 07 4948 3204 (Mon–Thu 8:00–16:30, Fri 8:00–14:30) or send the form on this page with your vehicle details and modifications. We confirm a quote and a booking time before you come in.
