Diesel dyno tuning for utes & 4WDs
Common-rail diesel utes and 4WDs tuned on our in-house Mainline 2WD dyno in Cannonvale. Standard diesel dyno tunes from $1,400 inc GST.
Quick answer
Elite Fleet Auto tunes diesel utes and 4WDs on its in-house Mainline 2WD chassis dyno at 8 Galbraith Park Drive, Cannonvale. A standard diesel dyno tune is from $1,400 inc GST, and a transmission (TCU) tune is from $850, or $500 when added to an engine tune. Our Mainline dyno is 2WD only: most part-time 4WD utes can run in rear-wheel drive (2H), but constant-4WD vehicles need a call first. Call 07 4948 3204.
How it works
What a diesel tune actually changes
A modern common-rail diesel is run by its engine control unit (ECU). It decides how much fuel each injector delivers, when it is delivered, how much rail pressure is used and, on turbo engines, how much boost is asked for. Factory settings are a compromise written for every market, every fuel quality and every owner. A diesel tune re-calibrates those settings for how you actually use the vehicle: towing a van to the Bowen Developmental Road, carting gear around the islands' boat ramps, or a daily drive with a canopy and a full load.
Done on a dyno, the tune is checked under controlled, repeatable load rather than guessed on the highway. We run a baseline first, then adjust and re-run while watching the engine data the ECU reports. If something looks wrong on the baseline, such as a boost leak or a fuelling fault, we stop and tell you before going further.
Will my 4WD fit on our dyno?
Our Mainline dyno is 2WD only. That suits most dual-cab utes and part-time 4WDs, because they can be driven in 2H (rear-wheel drive only). Popular examples include the Ranger, Hilux, Navara, D-Max, BT-50 and the LandCruiser 70 Series.
Constant (full-time) 4WD vehicles are different. Models such as the LandCruiser 200 and 300 Series wagons cannot simply be switched to rear-wheel drive. Call before booking with the model, year and engine and we will tell you straight whether it can go on our dyno.
Get the basics right before the tune
- Service it first. Fresh oil and filters, and a fuel filter that is not overdue.
- No boost or intercooler leaks. A split hose will show up on the dyno and waste your dyno time.
- Clutch and transmission. A tired clutch on a manual will slip under more torque. Autos should have healthy fluid and no shift faults.
- No warning lights or stored faults. If there are, book diagnostics first.
- Tell us how it is used. Towing weight, touring load, tyres and any modifications already fitted.
If the vehicle does heavy towing or touring work, our 4WD and tow vehicle servicing page covers the checks worth doing before a big trip.

Keep it legal and insured
Queensland has rules on vehicle modifications, and some changes need certification. Rules depend on the vehicle and the change, so check TMR's vehicle modifications page or ask us before you book. Tell your insurer about any tune, and if your vehicle is under a new-car warranty, check with the manufacturer or dealer first.

Is a dyno tune safe for my diesel 4WD?
A tune done on a dyno, on a healthy, serviced vehicle, is checked under controlled load with the engine data watched throughout. We check the vehicle first and tell you if anything needs fixing before we tune.
How much is a diesel tune?
A standard dyno tune for a petrol or diesel vehicle is from $1,400 inc GST. A transmission (TCU) tune is from $850, or $500 added to an engine tune. We confirm the price for your vehicle before we start. Call 07 4948 3204.
Can you tune a LandCruiser 300 Series?
Our Mainline dyno is 2WD only, and constant-4WD wagons such as the LandCruiser 200 and 300 Series cannot simply run in rear-wheel drive. Call us with the model and year before booking so we can check.
Do I need a transmission tune as well?
Not always. On automatics a TCU tune can help the gearbox suit the engine tune and the way you tow or drive. We talk it through when we quote; it is $500 when added to an engine tune.
Will a tune affect my warranty or insurance?
It can. Check with your manufacturer or dealer about warranty, and tell your insurer about any modification, including a tune, before you book.
