Trailer in the workshop for an inspection

If you're selling a registered car in Queensland, re-registering a vehicle, or running heavy vehicles and trailers, sooner or later you'll need an inspection. At Elite Fleet Auto - Electrics & Mechanical we do roadworthy (safety certificate) and COI inspections at our own inspection station, the workshop at 8 Galbraith Park Drive, Cannonvale. Here's what to expect.

Roadworthy vs COI: which one do you need?

  • Roadworthy (safety certificate): the inspection most people need when selling or registering a light vehicle. It's a safety check, not a full mechanical health check.
  • COI (Certificate of Inspection): required for certain heavy and commercial vehicles. It's more detailed than a standard roadworthy and checks compliance with transport regulations.

We inspect light vehicles, heavy vehicles, light trailers and heavy trailers. Not sure which certificate applies to your vehicle? Call us on 07 4948 3204 and we'll tell you before you book. For the official rules, check the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads website.

What we check

A roadworthy looks at the parts that keep you and everyone else safe on the road:

  • Brakes
  • Steering and suspension
  • Tyres and wheels
  • Lights
  • Windscreen condition
  • Chassis and structural integrity

Trailer inspections cover braking components, lights, coupling systems and structural condition. Heavy vehicle and heavy trailer inspections add a closer look at braking systems, chassis strength and regulatory requirements.

If something doesn't pass

If we find an issue, you get a clear report of what's needed to reach compliance. Because we're a full mechanical and auto-electrical workshop, we can usually quote and fix the problem in the same place, whether it's worn tyres, a lighting fault for our auto electricians, or brake work.
